Tail Water Tevere
A No-Kill fly fishing reserve, one of the most famous ones in Italy, began to receive praise at an international level after the world fly fishing championships were held there. The 7-km long ZRS Tail Water Tevere is listed by the Fly Fishing Fly Tying magazine among the top 10 rivers in Europe, the upstream reservoir of Montedolgio that regulates a constant flow of water at a temperature that even in the hottest months is never above 9 degrees, which makes the river the ideal habitat for trout and grayling which reproduce naturally thanks to the above conditions.
The river is celebrated for the abundant hatches which are guaranteed make an exciting day, for the many cuts that catch and for the environment that surrounds it, where deer and fawns are not a rare sight while you’re fishing!
The fishing season runs from the 1st of May to the 31st of December, with abundant hatches and numerous catches during the months of November and December despite being well into the winter.
Permits and membership of the Mosca Club Altovevere), which allows access to the reserve can be obtained directly at our facility, which is also home to the Mosca Club and the IBRA (Italian Bamboo Rodmakers Association).
LAKE MOTEDOGLIO
The large artificial lake of Motedoglio (one of the largest in Europe) has clean water, which is in fact used for drinking water. It is ideal for carp fishing and as well as large carp you can catch lake trout, brown trout and Mediterranean, chub, barbel, pike of various sizes, black bass, perch, tench, rudd, crucian carp, catfish and eels. Given the use as drinking water of the lake, the use of motor boats is prohibited, but access to the lake can be gained by row or sail boats and you can practice water sports such as windsurfing, kite surfing, canoeing, sail and pedal boats.
CAVE ALLAGATE
Downstream of the Montedoglio there are now flooded old quarries (Golena Tiber) from which water from the river Tevere. This is comprised by a set of 13 lakes with a depth of 2 or 3 metres where you can fish for carp, pike and large black bass.
SINGERNA CREEK
The Singerna creek is “our” river, which is the main watercourse of Caprese Michelangelo, flowing at the bottom of the valley, meeting near the castle and the house where Michelangelo was born. It starts at Monte Calvano (1254 m) and its main tributaries are the Tritesta, Carbonchia, Camaiano and Cerfone rivers. It is a tributary of the Tevere although after the Montedoglio lake was built it flows into the reservoir, which has been incorporated in the last kilometres. The water is classified as salmonids and it is the best salmonid area of the Tiber Valley. To fish you need to have a valid fishing license.
AFRA CREEK
Starting at the nature reserve Alpe della Luna and arriving to Sansepolcro, from the region of Montagna a La Villa, the path of the river Afra is easily accessible form the road. The waters are classified as salmonids and to fish you are required to have a valid fishing license.
